Can you get your settlement money in the form
of a debit card? You want to know the answer? Come join me for a moment as I share with
you some great information. Hi. I’m Gerry Oginski. I’m a New York Medical
Malpractice & Personal Injury trial lawyer, practicing law in the State of New York. Today
I’m coming to you from beautiful, sunny Sanibel Island, Florida and I have a few moments to
share this great information with you. Let’s say it’s an accident case or even a medical
malpractice case or a wrongful death case that you’ve decided to bring. Now at the conclusion
of the case you have agreed to settle the case. You’re wondering instead of getting
a check from the attorney’s escrow account, can you get a debit card so now you can go
and use it anywhere you want? The answer is yes, you can.
Many attorneys now will use a debit card to provide to you, the injured victim, who now
has settled their case instead of getting a check. In the old days it used to be that
an attorney was required to cut a check from his escrow account, his attorney trust account,
to give to you. Then you can go to any bank you want, deposit that money and do whatever
you wish with that check, assuming you were an adult. For children it would be much different.
Here’s my question to you. If you get a settlement check in hundreds of thousands of dollars
or even millions of dollars, do you really want to be walking around with a debit card
filled with all that money? Obviously you’re going to have to input a PIN number into it
in order to go ahead and purchase whatever you wish but do you really want to have that
in your hand, in your wallet, at any given time? Most people are going to turn around
and say, no, they don’t want that debit card with all that money sitting there. Why not?
Because it’s a security risk. You don’t want to run the risk that somebody’s going to take
your card or find out your PIN number and now all that money that you had sitting there
is gone. Why do I share this great information with
you? I share it with you just to give you an insight and an understanding into what
goes on in a civil lawsuit here in the State of New York. I realize you’ve got questions
or concerns about your own particular matter. Well, if you’re contemplating bringing a lawsuit
for an accident matter, medical malpractice, or even wrongful death and you’ve got legal
questions and your matter did happen in New York, what I encourage you to do is pick up
the phone and call me. I can answer your legal questions. You know, this is something I do
every single day and I’d love to chat with you.

quick video. I’m Gerry Oginski. Have a wonderful day.
